WHAT is “fragrance?” More than 95 percent of the chemicals in synthetic fragrances are derived from petrochemicals. These chemicals include: benzene derivatives, aldehydes, phthalates, and a slew of other known toxins that are capable of causing cancer, birth defects, nervous-system disorders and allergies—some of which are cited on the EPA’s hazardous waste list.
WHY should I avoid it? Environmental Working Group (EWG)researchers found more than 75 percent of products listing the ingredient “fragrance” contained phthalates (THAL-ates) which have been shown to disrupt hormone activity, reduce sperm counts, and cause reproductive malformation, and have been linked to liver and breast cancer, diabetes, and obesity. Additionally, studies by Dr. Philip J. Landrigan of the Mount Sinai Children’s Environmental Health Center, link fetal exposure with autism, ADHD, and neurological disorders.
WHAT?
Yes.....so as we place fragrance all over our bodies from head to toe, from deodorants, shampoos, perfumes, lotions, makeup, facial wipes and even baby wipes, higenic wipes and on and on......

Now with so many chemicals bombarding our system from every angle in cleaners which we are taking in through our nose......and then through our SKIN through FRAGRANCE integration our bodies can become chemically toxic and sometimes overly sensitive. Sometimes people will suffer all kinds of things such as migraines, nervous system disorders, behavioral disorders....etc. Not even realizing that Fragrance is contributing to the issues.
FORTUNATELY, this is something we can control in our lives by starting to eliminate our expose to it. We can read the labels on products we buy. We can embrace fragrance free products and keep items in our cabinets paraben-free as well (another chemical component which causes hormone disruption).
THIS DOES NOT MEAN WE HAVE TO BE SCENT FREE ! NO NO....I have embraced AROMA big time in my life once I started studying Clincal Aromatherapy over a year ago and realizing that I can keep the aromas flowing in my home using Essential Oils. These are pure plant extracts which are highly concentrated and can be used diluted. Depending on their components they can be used in your personal care products (Lotions, facial cleansers, face oils, toning sprays....etc) and household cleansers too!
So, I encourage you to go onto PINTEREST and check out some recipes for NATURAL ALTERNATIVES to chemical cleaners and fragrance toiletries.
LESS fragrance in my life has meant to me LESS MIGRAINES, less pain, and more ability to smell the natural aromas in my life. Even enhanced taste and more enjoyment of the genuine aromas which I can have around me.....yes even bad ones. LOL.....in general enhanced my senses.
The benefits of inhaling essential oils vs. fragrances are endless. Essential Oils being plant extracts have therapeutic value. Not only are they smelling GREAT, they have action that is affecting us in wondrous ways.......FOR EXAMPLE.....
The Benefit of an Aroma ~ Inhaling Essential Oils
Essential oils that are inhaled into the lungs offer both psychological and physical benefits. Not only does the aroma of the natural essential oil stimulate the brain to trigger a reaction, but when inhaled into the lungs, the natural constituents (naturally occurring chemicals) can supply therapeutic benefit. Diffusing eucalyptus essential oil to help ease congestion is a prominent example.
If not done correctly and safely, however, the use of essential oils can have severe consequences.

Buyer Beware: The United States does not regulate the use of the word aromatherapy on product packaging, labeling or in product advertising, so any product can be marketed as a product suitable for aromatherapy. There are quite a few products on the market that contain unnatural ingredients including fragrance oils and claim to be aromatherapeutic. It's important to look at the ingredient label when seeking true aromatherapy products.
Also, use caution with marketing claims that state a product is "Made With Essential Oils" or "Made With Natural Ingredients." Claims like these do not state that the product is onlymade with the ingredient(s) specified. Such products may contain heavy proportions of synthetic fragrance oils and only contain a minute quantity of essential oil to simply be able to profess the "Made With Essential Oils" claim.
