Essential Oils for Clinical Aromatherapy
and a bit on Safety
Essential Oils- What are they?
Essential oils are highly-concentrated plant extracts which are extracted from different parts of herbs, flowers, plants and trees (barks, resins, petals, rinds of citrus). They are made using several different extraction methods. These extracts are very highly concentrated and MUST be diluted in order to be used for therapeutic purposes. For an example to how concentrated these plant extracts are: one drop of peppermint Essential Oil is equal to approximately 40 cups or peppermint tea. This makes it an imperative knowledge regarding dilution based on varying factors:

Because Essential Oils are highly-concentrated they should be treated with much respect. Only a select few of these plant extracts can be safely used on the skin without dilution. Please understand the risks involved with using EO's "neat" (no dilution) before doing so (consult a certified practitioner).
The question of ingestion:
Essential oils are processed through our bodies liver and kidneys and always have the potential to interact with medications we might be taking. A Certified Clinical Aromatherapist will have knowledge of safety for use as well as resources to obtain further knowledge in this area.
Essential Oil are not meant to be going down our esophagus. With proper knowledge and education into ingestion and body process, ingestion of essential oils can be safe. In the "French Aromatherapy Model" there are knowledge of proper carrier into the body so that taking Essential oils for ingestion can be safe through a knowledgeable practitioner. Please don't attempt this on your own. Definitely NOT in a glass of water. Again, remember the one drop of peppermint oil equals 40 cups of tea thing? The body doesn't need this type of toxicity. Your digestive system is also at risk. Just because every body is doing it doesn't mean it is safe. Also remember companies may not have your best health in mind as they are educating their sales people in order to sell you more of their product. Please know that there are many things like this out there in the world where it is your duty to educate your self on this matter and take your health-care back into your power.

There are many other delivery methods aside from ingestion that are very direct and effective. Lets chat and find which ones are best for you and your needs.
